Whether you’re designing a new kitchen layout or simply replacing old cooking appliances, EmpireDirect.co.uk
is here to help you make the right choice.
The first thing to consider is how your new cooking appliances will be powered. There are three choices:
electric, gas or dual fuel (gas hob and electric oven). Your choice may well be determined by your pre-existing
local fuel supply; for example, if your home does not have a gas supply, you will have to either opt
for electric or a gas appliance that is compatible with liquefied propane gas (LPG) portable cylinders. Always
seek advice from a CORGI registered engineer before buying a gas appliance if you do not already have gas
connected.
The following are the key features for each fuel type. Gas has fast acting controls help change temperature
quickly, giving you greater control while cooking. Moist heat flow helps prevent food drying out in the oven.
There's a choice of conventional or fan-assisted ovens
Electric has a wide range of features offers flexibility and versatility. Ovens cook quicker and more evenly
than gas. You have a choice of conventional, fan, forced air, steam and programmable ovens
Dual fuel provides instant heat and greater control from the gas hob and faster cooking times of the electric
oven. There is wide choice when considering the style of your cooking appliances. The first decision
is to decide whether you prefer separate appliances (i.e. a hob and single or double oven, built-in or
built-under) or a slot-in or free standing cooker or range (which do not need housing).
We recommend that all cookers and ovens are installed by a registered engineer. All gas appliances must be
installed by a CORGI registered engineer. Please note that connection cables are not always supplied with electric
appliances.
