Full High Definition

High Definition 1080p is the next generation in picture quality. The true HDTV resolution (1080p) produces images of the highest resolution which is not at all possible on any other digital TV. Usually HDTV signals use video compression, hence, they can store much more amount of visual data and can produce billions of natural colours.

1080p televisions, which are sometimes referred to as 'Full HD' televisions use progressive scanning which display lines on the screen individually in a simultaneous motion. Progressive scanning tends to present better image quality against the same resolution scanned by interlace method (which is denoted by 'i' and which follows the resolution).

Currently there is no television signal which transmits to the 1080p standard. However, there are several next generation sources which can, such as: HD-DVD, Blu-ray, PS3 and the Microsoft Xbox Elite. These platforms can support Full HD quality.
