Capacity
HD DVD boasts a massive increase in capacity. Single sided discs have a 15 gigabyte storage size, with the dual layer offering 30 gigabytes. The 30GB format can store up to 8 hours of HD visuals. Today’s DVD has a capacity of 4.7GB, storing up to 2 hours of standard definition of visuals. Compared to the HD DVD which can store up to 48 hours of standard definition, today’s DVD seems tiny! HD-DVDs will be able to hold a full length film plus bonus content all on one disc, unlike today’s two disc requirement. Note that HD-DVD players will be fully compatible with traditional DVD discs.
